http://www.straight.com/article-152047/the-perils-being-a-breastfeeding-mom-vancouver

hmm…I laugh out loud when I read the line, “pump then feed in a bottle…right if I had the time to do that in the 1st place” I second that with, if I am already doing the pumping, feeding in the bottle and spending time boiling said bottle afterward, why don’t I just use formula.

That exactly why my family doctor asked me to stop breastfeeding. She said if the hospital already urge you to use formula as supplement, for the sake of your mental health, which she thought was rapidly deteriorating, you should just stop. Take care yourself before you can take care of your baby. Which make totally sense, but to a new mom, it just sound much like failure to produce.

I am going to try again this time, not only because of the benefit of breast milk; but I think financially speaking, it make more sense. IF Donny can latch properly, and I can produce, then it cost nothing. I will not be held up in the house, I will go out and proudly ripe out one of the girls in public if they are needed (ok, I will probably try to cover up with a blankie 1st..). If I can’t produce, I will rent out a pump and prepare to sit in font of said loud machine every 2 hours and endure the torture. I am even fully prepare to folk out the $2 per day rental fee for up to 3 months.  (which had inflated at 200% from the last time I rent it…like 3 years ago)

I however, think that price for going formula only or as supplement is just way higher than with Aidan. New BPA Free BORNFREE bottle: $13 to $15 per bottles, you will need at least 4 to survive a day if you only like to boil and sterile once a day (last time with Aidan, the two things that we kept buying was bottles and bib, because I got tire of washing the drying these things 3 times a day. We cut down to just doing laundry once a day and sterile bottle once a day at week 3.) If you don’t want to boil a big pot of water and sit and wait till your bottle has been boil, then you will need to folk up another $40 for the microwave sterilizer.

Then came the price of formula. Yes, we could use the $30 per can powder, but last time more powder had been empty into the drain then it actually make it into the bottle. You see, there is something call a new mommy brain. Same as pregnancy brain, it makes you stupid and slow. Perphap it was because you had just spend hours and hours in labor, or perphap it was the sleep deprived torture; the truth is by the 4 days the baby and the mommy had went home, you mind is so twisted that when you need to install the bottle warmer  (like, remove plastics bag and put A into B, put water into B then plug in the machine and press the big giant button..” WILL take you an hour to actually figure out the thing that you are holding is part of B and B is the machine; A in fact is the bottle of milk which doens’t came with the box. ) I always miss calculate how many “scoop” I had just put into the 240 ml of warm water, thus you will need to empty out the whole thing..because if you went under, then the baby don’t get the proper nutrient, if you are over, then you could kill your baby…

If I went with liquid concentrate like last time..that’s like $50 for a box of 12. That will last you for 12 days, because one can of concentrate will last exactly 24 hours. So roughly speaking, the monthly universal child support Mr.Harper had so ever generously provide, will all be eat up on formula. That is if you are lucky enough to be able to snatch the last case in superstore, you will have to go to the store daily to check becasue someone mom  had started the whole buy up all of the formula in the local supermarket and send it back to HK as gift trend.

I totally are going to predict with in 3 days of staying in Burnaby hospital(which the pit nurse truly believed with the concept in let the mommy and daddy feed/change/bath the new born by themselves) , with 2 of the lactation consultants resigned,  I will be shoving down a ready to serve formula down Donny’s hungry mouth, and ask to be release from the hospital. JUST LIKE WHAT HAPPEN LAST TIME.

Nesting instinct kicks in

I am going thru nesting…I think.

By definition it is an urge to clean and prepare your “nest” for your new born. I went thought it last time with Aidan…well I was also in the progress of moving from an apartment to a house…so I just chalk it off as normal behaviour.

I had try to organize all of the baby cloths that Aidan has, and about a week ago when I went through the box that was labeled “new born stuff”…I was scratching my head and wondering how come all there is was 3months to 6months…

So thinking that I miss-packed some stuff, last night while watching AI I open all of the storage boxes and started dig thru them.

9:30 Made Alan moved big dresser from Aidan’s room to our room (coz it’s the only one that can securely fit the deluxe contour changing pad without baby falling off..while changing baby not moving and slide off the table…happen once with Aidan. He landed him bump on top of Alan’s feet.)

9:45 Went thru all of Aidan existing clothing….found out the reason why the big dresser was overstuffed was because we never clear it out…

10:00 Aidan went to bed wondering how come the dresser got turn sideway…and it’s smaller.

10:15  I typed/lined up the big dresser drawers with clean receving blackets…a practice that I started with Aidan…which I think in my wrap mind is that if I can’t clean and stealier the drawer, I will cover it.

10:30 Started going over all of the boxes. The systerm is like this : one basket of newborn and 3-6 months that needs to be wash, one pile of 6-12 months, one pile of 12 months and then another piles for after 18months onward. Thinking that may be I should just screw with the season and just deal with size…coz it’s easier.

10:45 Laugh out lound at AI when Simon was saying how lame it was for Kara to pick a song for Kris to sing…then not only did she failed in follow through with mentoring him but start nugging him for not changing the arrangment and bugging about the song choice…Kara responsed by covering Simon’s mouth…I am just saying.

10:50 Aidan has so much cloths….must be because he is so cute. I was holding out a tux and started tearing up because he was so cute at my brother-in-law wedding. Alan and I rememise about the fact that he cried and cried when we were waiting to do the group photos, and then once we got up on the stage thingy and he saw the cameras, he just stop crying and look directly into the camera and poses. He was 6 months old, btw.

11:00 The following has been going back and fore between me and Alan, beside the arguments of who will be successful on AI,

“Dude, I don’t remember Aidan ever wear this once…”

“I don’t remember washes these cloths…” and the “Aww….look at the little tux/oneies/top…that is so cute…”

11:15 Adam turns me off…so much. I yelled out NOOOO as the host was announcing he is going to say “crying” by Aerosmith. I really think Aerosmith should  really recant and ban their song be sang on Idol, ever.

11:20 We started Fringe final…and I can now say I totally had forgotten which piles is which…because the basket of newborn to 3months old stuff..had started to overspilled onto the floor.

11:30 The system had totally collapsed and all I could think of was snack.

12:00 Alan actually called mid way that Peter was from another dimension/reality (whatever). I fell into the whole mixing up between the concept of Lost/Battlestar G with the “whatever happening now had happen before..” and ask if may be Peter had a flash forward. Still wanting snack but convinced myself that if I open a bag of chips then the baby cloths will be tainted….

12:15 Alan had decided to go to bed…I was still sitting in the sofa surrounded by clothing and kept saying I should may be eat something…..

12:45…decided that snack is more important…and combined the 12months and 18months and beyond into one big box and decided to call it a night.

The next day…

I actually caught Aidan putting some of the over spilled new born stuff  into his own drawers…

Conversation with my one year old.

I have been sick..or getting sick. Actually my whole house hold has been sick for a while, started with Number.1 fan a few weeks ago…then my mom…then my dad. Not to mention the baby. My brother and I seem ok, well he dodged that bullet pretty good since he was never home (ok what 24 years old kid who jusst graduated and got a job would stay home every night?).

Just as I was proud of myself cough-free, I started with the fever and coughing a few days back. You have to understand that since I had became a mom, people had been pretty amazed at my endurance (stay up all night…not because of Aidan but photo editing) and strength (be able to hold 20lbs baby on one hand then fold and carry the stroller plus the 4 lbs diaper bag and walked up a flight of stair). Just as I was glad to chill out….once the muscle arch started, I remember why people don’t want to be sick.

So, getting back to the conversation with Aidan…we “talked”  a lot.  It’s a mother and son thing, or mostly a thing that ran in our family. Being around dog and cat our whole life, it had allow us to become an empath with the animal in my house. In layman term…a crazy family who claims that they can talk and understand what their pets are saying. So over the years it had allows us to make out what to others are gibberish are.

As I was changing his diaper on Saturday, I turned my head around and started to cough.

a: Ohh…sick?

v: well, yeah….just have a sore thorat.

a: nose runn?

v: Nah, just coughing.

a: me…sick u?

v: well, I wouldn’t say it was all you, although I do spend a god awful lots of time with you…..while you were sick for the past two weeks…

a: huh?

v: Yes, pretend you don’t understand…just like your dad.

What do you mean you sold out of banana….TWICE!

We recently got a diet plan from a friend, who had tried the extreme version and lost about 30 pounds. It consisted of a list of food that split out into a 3 days meal plan, and for the rest of the week you get to chow on whatever you want (YES, even a cheeseburger Ms Kistren Alley.).

It’s kinda routine diet plan except it ask you to drink tea or coffee (with no cream and sugar) at each meal and have ice cream (YES!!) at night. For the rest of the days, pretty much water is your snack.

So we went grocery shopping last night since most of the stuff on there, we don’t have at home..(like, can of tuna and soda cracker…) and also grab some rice for my mom. We ran out of rice..don’t know how it happen, but it did.

Naturally we went to T&T, and we ran into the 1st road block. They have Durian (榴槤) , dragon fruit and star fruit…but no banana. No. 1 fan and I was just scratching our head, since we can not remember the last time we went to a supermarket and they didn’t have banana. Not in a sense of them sold out of banana but we couldn’t even found the empty display cart. We were just thinking…hmm, may be banana is not so hip for the Vancouver Chinese community. “No worry,” no.1 fan said,”We shall go to superstore and grab our banana…now let’s try to find the “2 pieces of meat” on the list.”

Road block number 2: As we walk toward the meat counter and arguing about rather 3oz of meat meant the weight or the volume (like, could we had ground up the meat and see if it could fit in a 4oz formula bottle.)…..the guys behind the meat counter was putting the meat away and turning off the light. Apparently, if the store meant to close at 10:00…you need to get there an hour before the closing time to purchase meat.

We kinda just look at each other and decided may be we should go somewhere else.

You know what is worst? They SOLD out of banana in Safe on Food. Like, NOTHING…except if you want to buy organic banana for 99 cent per pound….We picked up the ice cream (T&T don’t have plain vanilla ice cream. Aparently Chinese are not too dwell in plain old simple ice cream as well.) and then drove to our 3rd shopping destination for the night, Safe Way. Which is the location we were planning to go in the 1st place.

Oh and they DO have banana….LOADS of them.
